Why work with Suits Arts

What booking a Cincinnati saxophonist for a wedding, a clinic or a book of horn charts is like, and the numbers that are published rather than quoted.

Most of this trade runs on quotes and phone calls. This is what's different about working with me, with the parts you can check.

The numbers are on the site

Lessons are $50, $75 and $100 for thirty, forty-five and sixty minutes. Horn charts are $15 per horn per tune, so a book of forty is $1,800 to $3,600 for a wedding band depending on how many horns you carry, and twenty percent less for everything else. You can decide whether to call me before you call me.

The band flexes to the room

A three-piece in a restaurant and a big band in a ballroom are different jobs, and not just different sizes of the same one. Tell me the room and the date and I'll tell you what fits it, including when the answer is that you need fewer players than you were about to book.

Charts arrive playable

A chart is only finished when a horn section can read it down cold. Books are priced at forty tunes with a five-minute cap per tune, and anything longer is quoted before I start rather than added at the end.

I still play

I'm not a teacher who used to gig or a bandleader who stopped practicing. The person writing your charts is playing them, and the person teaching your fourteen-year-old is on a bandstand most weeks. That's the whole reason the lessons are about how music works rather than about the next exam.

Lessons happen in person or online, and both are real lessons

Online teaching isn't a lesser version for people who live too far away. For theory, composition, transcription and improvisation it's often better, because everything can be written down and shared on screen while we talk about it.
